When Addiction Disorder Treatments are Necessary

“Addict” can have many definitions. What may be addict-like behavior to one person is perfectly sensible, responsible use to someone else. There are people all over the world who consume alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, and other mind-altering substances, even ones like caffeine. Determining that line between “regular use” and “problematic use” isn’t always easy. From there, it can be even more difficult to differentiate between “problematic use” and “addiction.” Here at the PCI Centers, we offer many different addiction disorder treatments that can assist those who’ve gone from “problematic” to “addicted.” There are some signs to look for that show when a person has reached such a stage, and they are important to keep in mind.

An Inability to Maintain Control

Impaired control is one of the clearer signs that someone is suffering from addiction. A powerful, often overwhelming urge to use the substance, a craving that won’t go away, is a clear sign of an addiction. You might say: “well, that could mean a lot of different things.” However, this impaired control should be matched by multiple failed attempts to stop using the substance. If someone has the desire to quit but hasn’t been able to, then they very well might be suffering from addiction.

Risk and Consequences
Another sign to look for is the use of the substance in question taking place in increasingly riskier circumstances. In this context, “risky” could be defined as “somewhere where the person might be caught using the substance, or in a location where the use of the substance is likely to cause adverse circumstances for the user.” Clear examples of this would be using an illegal drug in a public, visible place, or perhaps drinking heavily while on the job. Again, as with all of these signs, if a person does this once or even occasionally, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re an addict. However, it makes sense to look at things in aggregate and not in isolation. Over time, if this behavior continues, the person could potentially be struggling with a serious addiction problem.

Social Problems and a Growing Tolerance
Those are some of the other more obvious signs of an addiction. Abusing a substance can cause serious problems for a person in their social and work life. If use is straining or even ruining a relationship, or making it impossible for a person to do their job, those are clear signs that a person could be suffering from addiction. On top of that, the more a person uses a substance, the more likely they are to have a stronger tolerance. That means that they have to use the substance more and more, thus perpetuating a nocive cycle.

Rehabs in Ventura County to Fit your Treatment and Life

If you’ve read any of our prior blogs, then you know that we provide individualized treatment plans to each of our patients. In fact, just about everything about our treatment is crafted to best fit our patients. That’s true from the moment they arrive at PCI Centers, even if beginning the detoxification process, and it continues through every step of treatment. In fact, we offer different treatment schedules for our intensive outpatient program at our rehabs in Ventura County to better fit the specific needs of each of our clients.

Rehabs in Ventura County for Work and Life

We know that for so many, once they’ve moved through our treatment programs, there’s a feeling of wanting to get back to their life. That could be getting back to a job, being around their family and (helpful) friends, or anything else. So, we have multiple schedules available to meet these specific needs. Instead of trying to move your life around to fit your treatment, you can move your treatment around to fit your life. Taking this kind of responsibility and initiative can help you as you continue your personal recovery journey in a multitude of ways.

Malibu Facility: Boutique, Yet Focused
Our Malibu facility is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a highly individualized outpatient approach. This may not have the day in and day out intensity of a more traditional IOP treatment schedule. However, that’s not to say that it lacks therapeutic benefits. In fact, it offers an entire range of boutique-specialized therapeutic services that are also in-depth. Many of the patients who come through our Malibu facility do so for the individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and more. All of these services and more are available at the Malibu facility.

Westlake Village Facility: General Track
At this facility, there are two different tracks available. The first, the earlier track, is called the “General” track. While anyone is welcome, most of the people who choose this particular track are younger adults from the ages of 18 through 30. This goes from 10 AM to 1 PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. That means that, once the program ends, the rest of the day is still ahead of them. So, there’s plenty of time to work a job, go on and live the rest of your life while getting your treatment.

Westlake Village Facility: Executive Track
If your mornings and afternoons are booked, then it’s still possible to get the IOP treatment that you need. Our “Executive Track” meets from 5 PM to 8 PM also on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. When you’ve had a long, hard day at work or school, it can be easy to fall into old, destructive habits when you go home at night. This treatment enables you to find better, healthier ways to decompress after a long day. To find the right treatment for your needs, you can send us a message through our site or call (855) 309-8111.

What to Expect at Detox Alcohol Treatment Center Westlake Village

There’s nothing easy about detox. It can be difficult, taking a toll on the body. However, it’s a necessary step. There’s a reason that it’s the first step in alcohol treatment: it flushes the alcohol out of the body’s system. Detox ensures that you’ll be watched over by trained, medical professionals. They’ll carefully monitor you or someone you care about, to ensure that their detox experience is as painless and simple as possible. We’re often asked about what folks can expect at our detox alcohol treatment center in Westlake Village.

Individualized Detox

It’s important to note that everyone’s detox is different. When you arrive at PCI Centers, you’ll be given a complete and thorough evaluation. From there, we’ll put together a treatment plan for you. While all of these treatment plans may differ, they tend to have some factors in common. Below, we’ve collected a few of those. No matter how your detox may go, you can rest assured that when you or someone you love comes to PCI Centers, they’ll get the detox as well as the alcohol treatment that they need according to standards based on the latest research.

Detox Symptoms
These are some of the symptoms that a person can go through. This doesn’t mean that everyone detoxing goes through them, but rather that many do. The most common symptoms that our trained medical professionals see are headaches, anxiety, excess sweating, nausea or even insomnia. However, sometimes we encounter more serious withdrawal symptoms. Hallucinations, seizures, tremors and worse can occur. No matter what occurs at your detox, medical professionals with years of experience will be on hand to alleviate your symptoms, helping you through the most difficult parts of the detox process.

Detox by Time
Often, detox starts with the smaller symptoms, the anxiety, the shaking, and irritability. Within the first couple days, that’s when the more serious symptoms tend to manifest themselves. There are some who “sail smoothly” through detox, avoiding the worst. However, sometimes in the first couple of days, or even through days three to seven, the symptoms that could otherwise threaten your life may arise. This is just part of why we so strenuously recommend that you go to a professional detox facility. That way, should the worst symptoms appear, someone will be there to handle them, to help you through them safely.

Next Steps at our Alcohol Treatment Center in Westlake Village
Usually by the end of a week (if not sooner) the worst of detox is over. From there, it’s often time for someone to move into a residential treatment center, or to make other plans. That’s where you can really utilize that specific, individualized treatment plan that we’ve put together. With individual therapy, group therapy, even family therapy and equine-assisted therapy, we have the therapeutic modalities to help you to discover the underlying traumas that cause the struggles with alcohol. We know how difficult this first step can be, which is why we try to make it as easy as possible. Simply message us at our site or call (855) 309-8111.

Mindful Exercise at our Intensive Outpatient Treatment Westlake Village

If you go to the page on our site that covers our Intensive Outpatient Program, you may notice a section on “mindful exercise.” We’re often asked exactly what this is and what it consists of. At PCI Centers, we use mindfulness meditation as well as mindful exercise to help people to manage their feelings in a better, more controllable way. This is just one of the many tools we have to help you to empower you, and live life more on your own terms. Mindful exercise is an important part of treatment at our intensive outpatient treatment in Westlake Village.

What “Mindfulness” Is

Often, when folks come to PCI Centers, it’s because, in part, they’re struggling with their feelings. Maybe it’s feelings that they want to go away, perhaps it’s feelings that they can’t manage, or it could even be feelings that they wish they could get back. Mindfulness is an evidence-supported, way to effectively manage feelings. Not only is there a great deal of research supporting mindfulness based skills, but this is one of the oldest tools there is to manage feelings. However, it’s “old” for a reason: it works. We’ve helped so many to use mindfulness meditation and exercise to calm their feelings, so that they’re at a level that they can be properly dealt with.

Mindfulness Meditation
This kind of meditation has a very specific purpose: it activates the part of the brain that helps you feel “present.” In this context, “present” means that you aren’t consumed with the past, nor are you worried about the future. Instead, you are perfectly “in the moment,”without judgment,  just going with what’s right in front of you. Tune out worries, ignore concerns about the past, and just focus on what’s happening right here, right now. Neuroscience research has shown that you can regulate your emotions with these exercises.

Mindful Exercise
At PCI Centers, our trained professionals will help you with specific yoga, mediation groups and art therapy. With these activities, you’ll be able to bet more “in the moment” and less trapped in ruminative thinking. It’s important to note that when we say “present,” we don’t mean that you’ll be “out of it,” or anything less than fully alert. Indeed, a synonym for “present” could be “calmly alert.”

Beyond Mindful Exercise at our Intensive Outpatient Treatment in Westlake Village
Of course, mindfulness meditation and exercise are just some of the ways that our professionals can help you at the PCI Centers. We have many other forms of therapy, too. Individual therapy, group therapy and family therapy are included in our services as well. Every service at PCI Centers is run by trained professionals who have been doing this for a long period of time. To learn more or to schedule a free consultation, message us through our site or call (855) 309-8111.

Quality Sober Living: Getting Sober and Enjoying Life

Simply staying sober might not actually be quality sober living. Certainly, living sober is better than the alternative. But, there’s more to life than just staying sober. At PCI Centers, we work with our residents on wellness. Changing previous behavior is a major portion of that, stopping the negative habits and traits that might have held the person back. However, it’s not just stopping that old behavior. It’s about replacing them with something else, something better. Through exploring and learning while surrounded by a supportive community, quality sober living enables folks to build new habits, so as to live in a healthy, sober, and fun way.

Quality Sober Living at Our Facility: the Basics

Living sober is one of those things that require “hands-on” learning. Sure, you can be told about habits that you should utilize to live sober. Indeed, our professional staff will lay them out and explain them in clear, concise detail. However, we’ve found that for the best, lasting success, it’s important to have a safe environment within which to explore these new habits. If you or someone you care about has been struggling with addiction for a long time, then it’s possible to forget what sober living was like. Here, you can explore it, discovering how to best use your time and abilities so that you can live how you want.

Habits That Travel

It’s very important to us that we develop a plan for sober living that fits you perfectly. Yes, it might use the same words or even share some techniques with someone else’s plan, but the plan that we devise for you will be for you and you alone. For so many of our patients, that’s lead to lasting success, as they find that the healthy living habits they develop here at PCI Centers go with them when they leave our facility. You can build a foundation for healthy living here that will go with you when you leave. The habits that we help you develop can fit into practically any lifestyle. That way, what you discover at our sober living facility will help you to live sober throughout the rest of your life.

Once at PCI Centers, Always a Member of our Community

We’re quite proud of the community that we’ve built here at our PCI Centers. When someone comes to our facility, it’s an incredible benefit to interact with a community of people who have gone through all of the same struggles they have, that they can learn from. Then, in turn, after that new patient is no longer new, they can interact with those who enter our facility when the return for outpatient therapy or at our Alumni nights. That said, once you’ve completed your stay at PCI Centers, it’s not like we forget about you. We make it a point to always be in touch. We can provide transportation to and from 12-step meetings and so much more. The first step towards sober living that lasts can be taken today. You can contact PCI Centers through our site or call (855) 309-8111.
